Our Tanzania day trips start from Arusha, Moshi or Marangu. The excursions are ideal in a short amount of time, you may visit a national park and observe a wide variety of wildlife or learn about the daily lives of Tanzania’s indigenous people. You have the option of being dropped off at Kilimanjaro International Airport, Arusha Airport, or your accommodation at the end of the day tour.
A picnic lunch (lunch box) and mineral water are included on all day trips tours.
Forgotten Pearl Day Safari
Tucked just this side of the Kenyan border and near to the busy city of Arusha lies the little-known jewel of Tanzania, Arusha National Park. At its heart is the 4566m Mount Meru, popular with mountaineers avoiding the too-well-trodden paths of Kilimanjaro. Arusha National Park is less visited than the more famous Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, but it’s for you if you want a beautiful landscape with an incredible variety of flora and fauna – but less people!
Arusha National Park has an awe-inspiring blend of vegetation which includes swamp, grasslands and montane forest and, of course, the mountain slopes of Meru which are swathed in tropical rainforest. It’s a unique eco-system that attracts thousands of animals and birds.
Our Forgotten Pearl Day Safari will give you the opportunity of getting up close and personal to the animals on a walking safari, but also lets you take in the landscapes on a glorious game drive.

Make sure you have an early (and good!) breakfast because we leave Arusha at 8:00 am sharp for the hour’s drive to Arusha National Park. Once you arrive, you’ll stretch your legs on an out-of-this-world walking safari, accompanied by a ranger who will guide you through rainforest up to a sparkling waterfall where you’ll be able to spot black and white colobus monkeys going about their day. After a tasty lunch you’ll hop in the Land Cruiser for a game drive that will take you through a wider scope of the park, including the Lakes of Momella and the Ngurduto Crater, and you’ll most likely spot buffalo, waterbuck, giraffe, warthogs, zebra and gazelle as well as a host of different bird species. If you’re lucky you’ll catch a glimpse of the shy leopard or elephant. Don’t forget your camera! After the drive, you’ll be driven back to Arusha/Moshi.

From Bean to Barista – our coffee-powered tour!
Nestled in the patchwork foothills of magnificent Kilimanjaro lies the beautiful village of Materuni, home to our Chagga friends and famous for its aromatic, rich coffee. On this fragrant and fun day out you’ll get a chance to make your own cup of coffee the proper way and you’ll find out the secret to the perfect cup of coffee from the local Chagga people. Next you’ll hike the short but challenging route to the Materuni Falls and you can stand under the waters as they cascade into a tranquility pool that’s safe for bathing. And you’ll want to jump straight in – after getting sweaty (ok, glowing!) from your hike, there’s nothing more soothing than floating in the cool waters. Enjoy your packed lunch before or after your swim – there are no rules!

Start your mini-adventure with the short but fascinating drive from Arusha/Moshi up the lush slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro to the village of Materuni, approximately 1,800 m above sea level. This is market garden territory and has the perfect mixture of climate and soil to produce some of the best coffee in Africa. You’ll visit a coffee farm and learn about how coffee is grown, harvested and processed, and you’ll try your hand at roasting and preparing a fresh cup of coffee the Chagga way. After a delightful coffee break (so much better than the ones at work!) you’ll take a beautiful 45-minute hike through the hills and valleys en route to the Materuni Falls. You’ll pass through banana and coffee plantations, up and down mini-valleys, across ridges and through narrow splashing rivulets. Along the way your guide will teach you about local plants and how they are used for food and traditional medicine, as well as giving you more insight into the local Chagga culture. It’s your chance to ask questions about a lifestyle that’s probably very different from your own! You’ll hear the Falls before you see them, and once they come into view, you might be lucky enough to see a rainbow sheen as the splashing waters split the sunlight. The Falls are hidden away in a pristine valley with cliffs towering to 200ft overhead. The mountain waters falls straight down in a shimmering curtain to splash in the rippling pool where you can float, take a swimand chill out – literally, as these are pure mountain waters and not yet heated by the sun. But it’ll be welcome after your hike, we bet.
Kilimanjaro Day Hike
Sneak Peek of the Peak
Majestic Mount Kilimanjaro is the awe-inspiring landmark of Tanzania but you don’t need to climb it to experience its full beauty and the captivating terrain that surrounds it. Our Sneak Peek of the Peak Hike is a Kilimanjaro day trip that gives you the opportunity to scramble up the first leg of the famed Marangu Route, through rainforest twittering with birdlife and chattering, curious blue monkeys. Watch out for a colobus or two!

Marangu Gate (1,800m/5,905ft) to Mandara Hut (2,743m/9,000ft)
Elevation Gain: 915 meters, 3,000 feet
Leave bustling, colorful Moshi early for the drive to Marangu Gate, the threshold of magnificent Kilimanjaro. It’s just an hour’s drive, but you’ll be captivated by the countryside – coffee and banana plantations, through picturesque Marangu village, with Kilimanjaro rising majestically ahead of you.
We’ll register you at the Marangu Gate (because we don’t want to lose you!) and then your adventure will begin. At first, the ridged trail is narrow as you wander through the rainforest. It’s lush and misty, with the trees adorned with moss. The canopy overhead is alive with birdsong and strange rustlings – is that a colobus? Mongoose might scuttle ahead of you. You’ll also meet tired hikers descending from the summit. Give them a high five for effort.
The hike to Mandara Hut is around three hours so stop to rest your legs and have a tasty lunch at the Hut and once you’ve replenished yourself, take the short but challenging walk to the Maundi Crater. On a clear day, the views to the east over Taveta and to the northwest to Mawenzi Peak are stunning. Don’t forget your camera! After basking in the beauty of it, you’ll hike back down to the Marangu Gate where our vehicle will be waiting for you to drive you, tired but happy, back to Moshi. This Kilimanjaro day hike is suitable for most people, even if you’re a little unfit!
Relax and Refresh Chemka Hot Springs Day Trip
A short but bumpy drive from Moshi are the clear, turquoise waters of the Chemka Hot Springs, an oasis of geothermal warmth that bubbles up from underground. Surrounded by lush forest alive with birdsong and the call of monkeys, the Chemka Hot Springs is an ideal place to ease those tired legs after a strenuous ascent up Kilimanjaro. They’re a little bit of heaven that’s perfect for a daytrip, and those warm blue waters invite you to linger, swim or explore. Return refreshed, revitalised and relaxed.
And if you really don’t want to leave just yet, we can organise and afternoon barbie or even an overnight stay.

We’ll pick you up from your Moshi hotel early morning for the hour-long drive to the Chemka Hot Springs. The road is very bumpy and windy, so hang on! During the drive, don’t forget to enjoy the wonderful scenery and authentic Tanzanian life as it unfolds along the road.
When we arrive, you’re free to be you. Linger at the edge of the springs, taking in the blue, blue waters and the lush green of the surrounding forest. Take a leisurely swim (don’t forget that the waters are very warm, so you won’t feel like an Olympic sprint) or float in a world that’s all your own, listening to the water lapping and the birds overhead. If you’re feeling adventurous, why not play on the rope swing? Playing isn’t just for kids!
The pond can be very deep, in some places up to 10 meters, but the water is so clear that you can see right to the bottom. Eat your lunch in the shade of the trees or, if you’re a sun bunny, find a hot spot all your own. You’ve plenty of time to spot the wildlife that also enjoy the Chemka Hot Springs.
Elephant Spectacular Day Safari
There’s something very special about Tarangire National Park. It’s one of Tanzania’s smaller (dare we say boutique?) parks but don’t let its size fool you. Tarangire National Park is crammed full of a spectacular diversity of awe-inspiring landscapes, big skies and, yes, you’ll see an amazing range of wildlife. But those in the know go to take in the elephants. Tarangire is renowned for its vibrant population of African bush elephants and our Elephant Spectacular Day Safari will bring you up close and personal to these magnificent animals. It’s a great taster safari, too; if you’re new to Tanzania, this day trip is great training for longer safaris.

We’ll depart from Moshi early in the morning and drives straight to the Tarangire National Park. The park’s landscape is awe-inspiring; dotted with colossal termite mounds (some now the homes of Mr and Mrs Mongoose and all the little mongoose) and ancient baobab trees, as well as golden savannah. The park has a year-round water supply and that’s why it’s so rich in wildlife. Bird lovers won’t be disappointed. The park hosts over 550 species of bird, including the world’s largest, the Maasai ostrich. (Yes, Tarangire is a small park but it attracts the biggest animals!).
You’ll have a great view from the open roof of your sturdy 4×4, so get your camera ready for giraffe, warthog, impala, cheetah, mongoose, buffalo, and baboons. Look up at tree-level to spot one of the famous climbing leopards of Tarangire, and look closer – is that a python?
But don’t forget those elephants! You’ll spot herds of elephants of all ages; bachelor herds or herds of females – babies, teenagers, young mums and older mums all led by a matriarch. You might spot a majestic bull elephant, too, who travel alone.
After a stop for a tasty lunch somewhere picturesque and, of course, safe (we don’t want you to BE lunch), you’ll spend the afternoon back in the 4×4, drinking in all the sights and sounds of this perfect little park.
We’ll drive you home to Moshi to arrive in the cool of the evening.
Chill with the Chagga
Our Marangu day trip has it all: culture, cuisine, caves and plenty of lively conversation. You’ll even take a dip in a waterfall or two, so bring your cozies.
Marangu town nestles on the fertile slopes of majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, and it’s brimming with tradition. You’ll explore the culture and terrifying history of the Chagga Tribe (they built those caves for a reason) and you’ll take a short but delightful hike in the lush green landscape to a sparkling waterfall but, don’t worry, you won’t run out of energy because you’ll visit a coffee plantation and have the chance to roast and make your own coffee. The buzz you’ll get from our packed-so-full-it-hurts Marangu day trip won’t just be the caffeine.
Immerse yourself in traditional town life for a day, the Marangu way.

We’ll leave Moshi first thing in the morning, skirting Kilimanjaro’s foothills with the rising sun on our right. Our first stop is the Marangu Gate at 1900m, which is the starting point for the Marangu climbing route. It’s an amazing start to your day; a weird mixture of the quiet calm of the green montaine forest and the tense excitement of the climbers about to ascend Kilimanjaro. The mood is catching and we may have to bustle you back into the van before you take off up the mountain!
Your nose will tell you about our second stop before we get there. Marangu is coffee country, and the beans are locally grown, blended and roasted. We’ll stop at a bijou coffee farm, where you’ll learn how the locals grow, harvest and process their coffee beans that grow in this perfect climate. You’ll even get the chance to try your hand at roasting and preparing your own cup of lovely, fresh coffee.
All this culture is probably giving you an appetite, so our next stop is for a tasty and traditionally Chagga lunch at our favourite little restaurant, where you’ll be served a hot meal (veggies catered for!).
Next, we’ll depart for the Ndoro Waterfalls for some post-prandial fresh air. The thirty-minute hike to the base of the waterfall will lead us through lush green forest and a steep climb down to the rocks. Enjoy the sparkling waters tumbling down the falls from the rockside or take a refreshing dip in the pool itself.
A dark contrast is a visit to the extensive Chagga Underground Caves, built by the Chagga to keep them safe from the Masaai who, in earlier times, migrated up the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro to enslave or kill them. We’ll spend a fascinating hour or so at the Chagga Live Museum, an outdoor space which will give you further insight into traditional Chagga life. The wandering goats lend some added authenticity! We’ll round off this action-packed day with a cheeky banana beer or naughty glass of banana wine – this is banana country, after all, so make the most of it!
You’ll get a nice sit down as we casually motor back to Moshi; we won’t complain if you have a crafty snooze on the way although there’s always something to see as we wind through the villages, foothills and roadways home. You’ll have experienced so much in such a short time, you deserve a rest.
The tour price is to be paid to the organizer on site.
