SPIRITUAL TOUR – BIGORSKI MONASTERY – RAJCICA MONASTERY – MAVROVO NATIONAL PARK

Mavrovo is a village and resort town in the mountainous region of western Macedonia.

Mavrovo Ski Resort is located in Mavrovo and Rostuse Municipality, nestled in a magnificent national park, just 100 km from the capital city of Skopje.

Saint Jovan Bigorski Monastery is a Macedonian Orthodox monastery in the western part of Macedonia, near the road connecting the towns of Debar and Gostivar.

Monastery was founded in 1020. The monastery church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. One of the most valuable treasures is the iconostasis created by Petre Filipovski – Garkata from the nearby village of Gari, which is considered to be one of the finest examples of wood-carved iconostasis.

The monastery has a large collection of holy relics, including St. John the Baptist, Clement of Ohrid, Lazarus of Bethany, St. Stephen, St. Nicholas, St. Barbara, Paraskevi of Rome, Trypho, Respicius and Nympha, and part of the Holy Cross .

Another valuable monastery treasure is an icon from the year 1020 with supposed miraculous healing powers.

Rajcica Monastery

The monastery is located in the village of Rajcica and the church is dedicated to St. George the Victorious (Gjorgjija Pobedonosec). This 11th-century all-female monastery preserves a piece of the cross of Jesus and a small portion of the hand of Saint George the Victorious. The monastery complex was recently rebuilt.
